Spent a holiday with my girlfriend and her daughter in Alanya TA4- Hotel Iberostar Alantur
My setup was simple: an ICOM 706, 100 watts, and a vertical wire antenna. I recall one particular evening when I set up my station right on the shoreline. After calling CQ on the 30m band, I was thrilled to be picked up by my old friend Felix, DL5XL, transmitting as DP1POL from the Georg von Neumayer Research Station in Antarctica. As we exchanged our details, I watched a nearby turtle nest come to life in the moonlight, the tiny hatchlings making their way to the surf. While Felix described his snowmobile trip to a penguin colony in the sub-zero ice, I was sitting on the sand in my shorts, soaking in the 35-degree tropical night.
