The 10th World Radiosport Team Championship (WRTC 2026) officially began with a spectacular Olympic-style opening ceremony on Thursday, July 9, 2026. Hosted at the beautiful Wyboston Lakes Resort in Bedford, England, the event transformed the venue into the temporary capital of the amateur radio world.

The evening kicked off in the elegant Rosewood Suite, welcoming 50 two-person teams along with their assigned referees, event volunteers, and international visitors representing every continent. The room buzzed with anticipation as the „Olympics of Amateur Radio“ finally got underway.
The atmosphere was a unique blend of intense competitive focus and deep international friendship. For many operators who only know each other by their callsigns or voices on the high-frequency (HF) bands, the pre-drinks at the Cedar Lounge offered a long-awaited chance to meet face-to-face.
Speeches, Flags, and the Big Reveal
The formal ceremony was led by Master of Ceremonies and RSGB President Bob Beebe, GU4YOX, alongside Mark Haynes, M0DXR, the Chairman of the WRTC Organizing Committee. They formally welcomed the elite contesters and thanked the hundreds of volunteers who spent the previous weeks setting up identical antenna systems across East Anglia.
The absolute highlight of the evening was the official unveiling of the unique „MB“ contest callsigns. To ensure absolute fairness, these special prefixes remained a closely guarded secret until this very moment. Their announcement sent a wave of excitement through the crowd, as competitors finally learned the exact callsigns they would use to battle for the world title over a non-stop, 24-hour marathon.
An Evening of Celebration
Following the presentation, the night concluded with a grand, celebratory Opening Ceremony Gala dinner. Over fine food and drinks, competitors from different cultures shared strategies, talked gear, and toasted to the spirit of radiosport.
The opening ceremony perfectly set the stage for the grueling competition ahead, uniting the world’s best operators under one roof before they scattered to their remote field stations to let the signals fly the upcoming weekend.
